On Saturday, January 21, 2012, YPN Miami joined over 100 volunteers to lend a helping hand at Feeding South Florida where we sorted and packaged food and supplies donated from food distributors. These packages would then be distributed to a network of over 700 non-profit organizations throughout the entire South Florida region who would then distribute the food to families who need it most.

“The fact is, 49 million Americans are at risk of hunger. That’s 1 in 6 Americans, and many of them are children and the elderly,” shared Toby Ives, Interim Executive Director of Feeding South Florida.

During the morning’s volunteer Boot Camp, Ives shared inspirational videos highlighting the remarkable work of Feeding South Florida, and shed light on the hunger epidemic that America faces. As we got in position to start our volunteer duties for the day, Ives got us fired up marching to an upbeat cadence as she led the volunteers from Boot Camp off to help fight the war against hunger.

Formally known as the Daily Bread Food Bank, Feeding South Florida’s mission is to  end hunger and improve the lives of those who go hungry by providing them with the most basic need of food. The organization is also driven to educate the public about hunger right here in our community and to inspire us to become more conscious of this battle.
