Get some exercise, take in the sights and sounds of Zoo Miami, and help build a school to build new lives in Haiti. Walk for Haiti, a walkathon to raise money to build and operate a school near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, takes place Saturday, October 22, at Zoo Miami. It’s hosted by Local 10 reporter Glenna Milberg and features music by Y-100 on-air personality Christopher Cruz.

Walk for Haiti is sponsored by Hand in Hand for Haiti, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation, which is donating all administrative costs of fund-raising. All money raised will go to the school’s construction and operating expenses.

Each entry donation received before 8 a.m. on the day of the event includes the cost of admission to Zoo Miami following the walk.

Teams and individuals are asked to register now for the walkathon, and to collect pledges of donations for the school. Satellite teams and individuals may register to participate off-site: on a treadmill or track, at home, on a ship or anywhere else in the world.

Check-in begins at 7 a.m. at the zoo. Walkers will start at 8 a.m. Participants may sign up online at www.handinhandforhaiti.com. Before September 16, the registration donation is $20 for adults and $10 for youth 16 and younger. After

September 16, it rises to $30 for adults and $15 for youth. Satellite participants pay a donation of $10 per person.
