5K Walk/Run for Sickle Cell Anemia – September 10th

The   Sickle   Cell   Disease   Association   of   America   (SCDAA),   Miami   Dade   County   Chapter,   Inc.,   in   cooperation   with   the   University   of   Miami   Sickle   Cell   Center,   100 Black Men of South Florida, and the City of Miami Gardens is hosting  the 2011   5K Walk/Run   to help   improve  the   quality   of   life   for   people   with   sickle   cell   disease   and   related   illnesses.

Registration: 5:30 a.m.
Walk/Run Starts: 7:00 a.m.

Pre-Registration Fee: $20.00

The  32nd   Annual 5k Sickle Cell Run will be a chip-timed, competitive event, while the walk will be non-chip-timed and non-competitive.   Prizes   will   be   awarded   in   various   categories   to   include:

– Top   3   overall   race   finishers,   male/female;

– Top  3  race  finishers  male/female  in   groups   (14   and   under,   15-­19,   20-­24,   25-­29,   30-­ 34,  35-­39,  40-­44,  45-­49,  50-­54,  55-­59,  60-­64,  65-­ 69,  and  70  and  over)

– Team  Scoring:  First,  second   and   third   fastest

– Team   with   most   participants

– Highest   Fundraising   School,   Church,   Community  Organization  and  Individual

After   the   race   a   Community   Health   Fair   will   feature   healthcare   booths   offering   services   and   performing   medical   screenings,   along   with   Sponsors  sharing  their  goods  and  services.       Food  and  music  will  be  provided  and  a  Battle  of   the   Drum   Lines   competition   among   local   high   schools  will  take  place.
