YPN Spotlight: Dr. Venessa Walker of the Owen Walker Jr. Foundation (OWJF)

Dr. Venessa Walker, D.C. was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica and raised in South Florida. Early on, Dr. Walker discovered her love and passion for health care. She graduated and attended a local Medical Magnet Program in high school. After which, Dr. Walker earned a Bachelor’s of Bio Medical Science degree from the University of South Florida and immediately enrolled in Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida where she earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic at the age of 25.

After obtaining her degrees, Dr. Walker felt compelled to impart in others the knowledge that was bestowed upon her. As a spirited educator and speaker, Dr. Walker has the ability to hold the interest and attention of her audience – ranging from adolescents to adults (including colleagues). Dr. Walker currently travels the world educating individuals through her program “Transform YOUR life.” This program includes various components of health, wellness, fitness and nutrition. There are various topics discussed in the program such as: “Healthier You! – Small Steps to Success”, “Mind, Body and Soul”, “It’s all in your BRAIN” Stress, Depression, Weight gain etc.

Dr. Walker is also the President/CEO of the Owen Walker Jr. Foundation (OWJF) – a non-profit organization which builds on a three tiers to empower, equip and educate youths and young adults with the necessary tools for a positive change. The OWJF was established in February 2009 after the untimely death of her younger and only brother, Owen Walker Jr. who died due to a heart condition.

Dr. Walker’s is passionate about her community involvements that includes, but are not limited to, being an active member of the Urban League of Broward County Young Professional Networking as the Membership Chair, Countyline Worship Center Church of God as a Youth Minister, Women with Heart, and a Board Member of Boys and Girls Club Craver Ranches.   Dr. Walker was recently recognized as a nominee for the African American Achievers Award 2011.

Dr. Walker continues to fulfill her passion and calling as a chiropractic physician, entrepreneur, minister, philanthropist and educator. Her life epitomizes the following quotes: The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease, and “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

Dr. Walker currently resides in Miramar, Florida
